Motherful Atlanta:

Mothering the Creative Spirit

Mothers are sowers and sewers. We plant seeds for the future and stitch our communities together. Motherful Atlanta gives moms the space, support, and village to create.

ABOUT MOTHERFUL ATLANTA

Mothers are sowers and sewers.

We sow: we plant seeds in our children, our neighborhoods, and the future, often without seeing the harvest.

We sew: we piece together resources, mend what's torn, and stitch families and communities into something whole.

Motherful Atlanta is our arts-centered chapter, built on the belief that this work is creative work, and that mothers deserve room to make, express, and dream for themselves too. Rooted in the values that guide Motherful everywhere (mutual aid, shared leadership, and love in action), we're mothering the creative spirit in every mom we serve.

WHAT WE'RE SOWING

At Motherful Atlanta, we’re mothering the creative spirit. We’re doing that through multiple channels, such as:

  • Creative workshops: in-person and virtual gatherings where moms can learn, make, and connect.

  • Cooking classes: an opportunity to learn how to cook nurturing, feel-good meals for families.

  • Community events: mothers are the anchor in every family; our goal is to build community not only for today, but for generations to come.

Meet, Agapè.

Jasimine “Agapè” Pennywell is an Atlanta-based textile artist, teaching artist, and mother who believes fabric holds our stories.

With a BFA in fashion design and a practice rooted in quilting, sewing, collage, and wearable art, Agapè turns reclaimed garments and donated materials into story quilts and textile works. Her work draws on African American quilting traditions and the belief that cloth carries memory, identity, and care.

As a teaching artist, she leads intuitive art experiences where personal voice matters more than perfection, and where making becomes a way to heal, connect, and tell the truth about our lives.

Agapè knows firsthand what it takes to build something creative while raising a family. Through Motherful Atlanta, she creates space for mothers to slow down, make something with their hands, and remember they are creators too.

A sewer in every sense, she stitches together fabric, families, and community.
